Blurb:
Do you ever just yearn? For love? For belonging?
The only place Braxton feels at home is beneath the bright orange leaves of the Amber Forest. The one place her mother forbids her from going. Evil Fey haunt that forest. Her mother spouts her superstitions no less than thirteen times a year. Braxton pays that no mind, the forest is her happy place, and finding her father hanging from a tree doesn't change that. But when Braxton falls into a fox’s den and the lines between dream and reality blur beyond recognition, she begins to wonder if her mother was right.
Perfect for fans of Alice in Wonderland and unreliable narrators.
Content Notice:
This story contains depictions of on-page drug use (marijuana), mention of sexual activity (not on page), grief, mentions of suicide and death of a parent (father’s suicide depicted on page), mention of underage drinking (not on page), and mild gore.
Put yourself first. If you find any of these depictions harmful to your mental well-being, please do not read further.
This is both a story of love and a mild descent into madness. You may find the beginning confusing. You’re supposed to. Our character is confused, and I wanted to take the reader through that with her. Braxton is a young woman trying to find herself, and she’s struggling, and her story is a little messy, but I hope you stick with her till the end. She gets her happily ever after, but you may find it bittersweet. That’s intentional. Her story is part of a larger world that will be further shown in a full-length novel (TFATT, coming in 2026) where she’s the best friend of the MMC.
Also, there are no chapters, only scene breaks. Have fun with that.
